Archaeology.

Sunday, December 28th, 2003

I’ve got the archives up and running a bit quicker than I expected. The importing was pretty straightforward; it just took a while going through all the posts assigning categories and filling in a few missing titles. There’s probably a few links left in there that go to old blog entries on Twoshoes, but that shouldn’t be a problem as I have no plans to delete those archives.

Next up: skinning the comments boxes, not least because the default skin isn’t behaving 100% right on my machine (IE6 + WinXP). Don’t know why, but there ya go. Also, my permalinks aren’t going to anchors. That’s what I get for doing my own templates from scratch.

A change is as good as a rest.

Welcome to marramgrass.

This is the new home for my weblog, previously found over at Twoshoes. I’ve spent a little time over Christmas trying to get the hang of Movable Type (which is very nice, by the way - but I know you already knew that) and mucking around with the design for this site. It’s a little bland, I know, and I haven’t got as far as the comment boxes yet, but it’s home…

Over the next while I plan to fiddle around and import all my old posts from Blogger, but don’t hold your breath.

In the meantime, hopefully this will be normal service resumed.

Drive-by posting.

Look at the date of the last post: 10 Nov. That’s a month and seven days ago.

Oh dear.

In my defence, moving house, a holiday, a busy time at work, etc, etc.

Well, won’t happen again. At least, after a little longer it won’t happen again. Like it’s author, this blog is moving house, to a new dedicated domain. And I’m going to take the opportunity to change its name to something I’ve wanted to write under for years, and migrate to MT as well.

All will be revealed over Christmas when I’ve a bit less on!

Pax.

Big yellow.

Monday, November 10th, 2003

On Friday a big yellow lorry came and three guys loaded all our possessions up and drove them to our new flat.

There are a number of side effects to this:

  1. Lots more room. We now have a dedicated dining room and a study. Or at least we will have onve the boxes have been cleared. It’s quite sad how happy I am about having a study!
  2. For the time being (until Friday, if all is according to plan) we are back on dial-up internet access. This is bad. Very, very bad.
  3. Wiping out a few days to move, plus all the unpacking and sorting time, my chances of completing NaNoWriMo are dwindling. It’s the tenth, and I’ve written about 1600 words. Impressed?
  4. Plus the usual remembering to tell everyone who needs to know that we’ve moved that we’ve moved.

Give us a while, and if you think we should have been in touch with new contact details when we haven’t, drop an email from the contact page.

‘Twas the month before Christmas…

Sunday, November 2nd, 2003

Yes, folks, yesterday saw the start of NaNo. It’s almost 10pm on Sunday the 2nd of November, and have I written a single word yet? Have I what.

Some day this week, I promise.

23.

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

Yesterday was my twenty-third birthday. It was very nice that loads of people remembered and wished me ‘Happy Birthday’.

Thank you, all.

But 23 feels awfully old (relatively speaking). 21 is still young, 22 is not really of note. But at 23, surely there is some expectation of maturity and sense, and proper adult-ness?

Just along from the nuclear submarines.

Had our youth weekend away at Garelochhead Parish Church, which is just around a wee bit from Faslane naval base. Eleven of us in all got the train through to Helensburgh, where we were met by the minister from the church.

It was a good time to get to know some of the guys a get better and have a laugh, with new experiences (mountainboarding rocks, but every muscle hurt for the next couple of days) and plenty of chat.

I feel I am just about recovered by now!

Cabin Fever was crap.

Plain and simple: crap.

Kill Bill.

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

Got to go see this last week. An experience :-)

It is known that I like Tarantino’s movies - with the exception of the insomnia-curing Jackie Brown - and I’ve been looking forward to Kill Bill Vol. 1. And was not disappointed.

I haven’t really as much to say about this film as I usually do. Violent certainly - got to be among the bloodiest movies I’ve ever seen, but in a slightly silly, comic-book sort of way. Slight let-down at the end, as I’d rather see Vol. 2 now, thank you very much. All in all, extremely entertaining, if not for the faint of heart or those bothered flying limbs.

What a week! Let the posting catch-up commence…
