I've had more problems with horses and sheep figuring out fences than cows. It might be an IQ thing, at least in the case of the horses*. No idea how the sheep did it. Maybe a horse helped them.

*We had a Shetland pony that figured out how to open the gate, and kept letting everybody out (until we finally changed the combination).

Hmm. They didn't look scared to me. More angry.

Sounds like the coaxing was successful :)

The main problem, I think, was that the doggy was fully rpepared to fight back. I foresaw it going bad...

Cows need love too. :)

I have always been told that cows are scared of us because we are, on average, above their eye level , therefore in cow vision we are huge. This could be a myth, possibly a tall tale to coax a farmers daughters into assisting around the farm without fear. But, in general, their demeaner does change with moving objects below eye level ie dogs, cats, kids...etc.

So if you feel that cold stare take comfort in the knowledge that it was not you the cow wanted to stamp on but the doggy I am afraid.
