Bleurgh.

The weather today has been simply shocking — there’s lots of flooding going on round here.

Makes you glad to be inside in the warm. I think we’ll be lighting the fire tonight when some family come round.

My plans are well under way. We went to see Beowulf last weekend, and I caught The Golden Compass yesterday. They were, to different degrees, disappointing. I’ll come back to them when I’m not supposed to be writing something I actually get paid for…

I am now in Heathrow. Beowulf is better in IMAX 3D and I found Golden Compass to be an ok movie but an appalling version of the book. Also its subtle changes made it seem more not less anti Catholic to me. Fra Pavel who is on Asriel’s side in the book is now the poisoner, it is the Magisterium’s war not Asriel’s… Asriel is a 2D goodie whilst in the book he is menacing from the off. I was also upset by the loss of detail on the bears and lies, and the simplification of the Alietheometer and who can read it and…

I will do a post myself later. An ok film but not a good version of the story.

Also… Enchanted. Seriously. If you don’t spend the whole movie grinning you have no soul. I’m going again. Movie of the year material for me.
